The death of family owned businesses in America

Hurry, After 32 Years Overland Ace Hardware Is Closing The Doors!

16 years ago when we moved to Boise, there was only one home depot location. There was independent hardware store about every 1 - 2 miles in any direction. We had 4 Ace hardware stores within the city limits alone not to mention the suburbs. There was Tue value and a Do It Best store plus several unaffiliated independent store. Since that time we have have Lowes come to town with four new stores all strategically place near the big hardware stores. Home Depot now has 4 stores as well. One by one the locally owned stores are going away. We are down to one Ace Hardware on the North End of Boise, Home Depot & Lowes have not opened in that area yet. Do It Best and True value are completely gone from the area.

We have seen the same thing with other Businesses, Walgreens came to town, and now has a location on most corners, same with Walmart. Every time one of these large chain stores comes to town two small business close.

Everyday things made into art.

There have been a few times in the last year since I started my blog, that I just cannot find interesting things to photograph. That is where I am now, summer is winding down and the fall colors have not stated yet. I decided to get creative and take some pictures around the house.

Busy bees make my garden grow!

I have been trying to take a good photo of a bee for years. Although these are not perfect, this is the best I have been able to get. Now I have something to build on

We had so much rain last week, the mushrooms take taken up residency in my back yard

Boise THE CITY OF TREES (Just Add Water)

When you are at the Boise Train Depot and you look to the Northeast down Capitol Boulevard it is an eye opening experience of what "the city of trees" would be like if it was not artificially watered. Just past the Capitol is the undeveloped foothills.

Fast moving storm and angry sky

It was dry all day today, until about 4:00. Then they wind picked up the clouds came in, by 5:30 it was all gone. I just happened to have my SLR camera at the office.
This was the view to the West. there was some lightning to the west.
This was the view due North. Someone thought there was a funnel cloud
 Looking Northeast a little clearer
Due East blue sky, all four photos were taken at the same time from the office steps.
